Baby Reagan has arrived!

On Friday, March 30th 2012, we finally welcomed sweet baby Reagan into our family. There are four days in my life that will always hold an extra special place in my heart and this day was one of them. Absolutely amazing. Reagan was born at 10:36am, weighing in at 7 pounds, 2 ounces and 19 3/4 inches long. I have been praying since the day I found out that I was pregnant that we would have another healthy baby...and God provided us with just that. I am still in new baby bliss; I just can't seem to get enough of her.

Reagan's arrival:

My last check up at the doctor was on Wednesday, 28March2012. The doctor informed me that I was 2cm dilated and that the baby was extremely low. He wanted to talk induction because he didn't think I would make it through the weekend, but I just had my heart set on letting this girl come when she was ready. Wednesday night, I started having contractions, but after getting Kate and Hayes to bed they seemed to slow down. Not much changed on Thursday, although I was on pins and needles all day wondering if she would come soon. Thanks to my amazing Mom, she was staying with us all week in case I went into labor. Words can't describe how much I appreciated her being here, not only to help me with the kids during the last week, but also to know that my babies were in good hands should we have to rush to the hospital. Because of her, I wasn't forced to make this little girl come earlier. Friday morning I woke up several times in the night as I always do, but at 6am, I just couldn't get back to sleep. I was having contractions and they just felt different, they seemed to hurt a little more than the others. I went downstairs to watch some TV and get breakfast ready for the kids. I noticed that these contractions weren't easing up, and they were consistently at 15 minutes apart. The kids woke up at 7am, I got their breakfast ready and then asked Mom to finish up with Hayes as I felt like I needed to get dressed and ready....I felt like this could really be it. I woke Kevin and told him I thought I was in labor and his response was "Ok, I'll stay home today." He is so clueless when he is sleeping! After about 30 more minutes and contractions now down to 12 minutes apart, I told him he may want to get in the shower, because we were going to need to head to the hospital soon. He jumped out of bed and we both started to rush a little more to get everything together. By the time we got all of our things, gave the kids kisses and hugs, it was 8:15am and my contractions were at 8 minutes apart. Oh no. The doctor said to call at 10 minutes AND it is rush hour...I was getting nervous. We finally made it to the hospital at 9am and after sitting in the triage unit waiting for them to check me, I was admitted at 9:45 and my contractions were 4 minutes apart...and VERY painful. I did not have an epidural with the last two kids, but this time I had decided that I would give it a try. I was SO nervous. I hadn't cried yet and had already dilated to 8 before the anesthesiologist came in, but as soon as he started to work, I couldn't hold the tears back. It didn't hurt, but I was terrified. There was nothing to be scared of, it didn't really hurt and the pain relief was AMAZING. They said I could start pushing then, but wanted to wait until the nurse and doctor were ready. So, about 20 minutes later, I pushed twice and this little girl was introduced into the world. Oh the day your child is born, there are no words to describe it. She was healthy, beautiful and in my arms. I was (and still am) head over heels in love (again!).

Big Sister/Big Brother:

Kate and Hayes are doing amazing with this new little addition. Kate absolutely adores everything about her. She couldn't wait to get to the hospital to meet her and she just wanted to hold her and touch her the entire time. The newness hasn't worn off yet, she still loves her so much. I couldn't be more proud of my big girl and how she is handling all of the new changes in her life over the previous couple of years. Hayes wasn't too interested in the baby at the hospital. Now that we are home, he is fascinated by her. He is incredibly gentle and wants to kiss her on the head all the time. I am surprised at how wonderful is has been with her as well.

Welcome to our family, Ms. Reagan LeeAnn Davis. You complete us.

Sunny Days and 38 Weeks

The Davis' are enjoying these amazing summer-like days in March.  The kids and I have taken full advantage of the warm weather and spent many days over the last couple weeks outside.  We have been able to do so many fun things, from neighborhood get togethers (including 16...that's right 16 kiddos playing in our cul-de-sac...too much chaos for picture taking :-)) to going on a picnic and even playing in the sprinklers!  Needless to say, we have taken full advantage of this amazing March weather.

On another note, we are getting SO close to meeting our sweet baby girl!  I am 38 weeks today and although this little peanut could come at any time, I'm hoping she holds out for at least another week or so....we could use the extra time to prepare!  However, I will be more than happy to see her beautiful face anytime she is ready!  Kate, Kevin and I are getting extremely anxious to meet our sweet baby girl (Hayes just understands that Mommy's tummy is very large and not so convenient for snuggling)!

A Tea Party for a Princess

What better way to celebrate a fifth birthday than with a princess tea party?!  Kate and I had a great time planning for the big day.  After searching endlessely for tea sets for the princesses, I stumbled upon a 'paint your own teaset'.  With a slightly immobile little girl due to a full leg cast, this was the perfect solution...it gave her something fun to do AND allowed her to be a big part of making her day special!  She had a blast painting all of the tea sets for the royal party, which would be sent home with the party guests as favors.

THE Artist.

The first set.  What a little artist.

Next up was finding the perfect dress for the birthday girl.  As we requested on the invites, all of her friends would arrive dressed as their favorite princess.  Kate's special present from Mommy and Daddy was to go to the Disney store and pick out any dress she wanted.  After trying on every single one...and I mean every single one (which was an interesting experience with the cast), I couldn't say no to the "Cinderella Wedding Dress".  If you could have seen the smile on her little face when she saw herself in the mirror, you would understand.  It was more than obvious that she felt beautiful, which is just what I wanted for her.

Kate also insisted on helping make her cake/s for the party...which meant that Mommy couldn't take the easy way out and have Brandi make yet another beautiful cake for my girl.  This party wasn't about what was easy for me, it was about what would make it special for Kate....so we made cupcakes for her friends and a special cake just for her and we did it together!
The start of the cake making process

After I stayed up late the night before finishing up all of the decorations (banners, door signs, etc.), I knew she would wake up a happy girl on party day.  On the morning of the party, I went upstairs to get her out of bed (she got her cast off the day before and was still struggling to walk on her leg) and when she saw the decorations, she said "I love the decorations, Mommy, they look amazing!"  All of the hard work paid off!

She and all the girls had a great time.  They played dress-up, enjoyed the royal tea party, played barbies/princesses and ate lots of cake!  These parties are always a lot of work for me, but my heart is so full when I see the  smile on her precious face.  I want to make sure she knows how special this day is and ALWYAS will be for us too.

And now for pictures of the party followed by a few short words about her actual birthday.

Hayes had a door sign, so she wanted one too!

These had pink, green and purple candy in them for the princesses!

I proudly made the banner and bows this time!

The after party was followed up by a dinner at McDonalds...her choice.  Here a few McDonald's birthday dinner pictures.

As you can see we had a great day celebrating our big girl turning FIVE!  Because she was so excited about finally turning five (she now writes the following on all of her papers: "Kate Davis. 5." and tells everyone she sees that she is five!), we didn't have the heart to tell her that Saturday wasn't her actual birthday.  She woke up and was certain that she was bigger and older on that day (her clothes wouldn't fit anymore - Mommy was going to need to get her some "five clothes").  So, when her actual birthday came on Monday, I couldn't tell her, but I also couldn't help but to celebrate.  In her mind she was already five, but to Mommy, this day was the extra special one!  So, after picking her up from preschool, we went to the mall and had lunch of her choice, rode the merry-go-round many times, made a brithday build a bear and went to the candy store.  I just couldn't resist celebrating on the fifth anniversary of her actual birth.  (I couldn't get many pictures of this day as I was also chasing around a very busy little monkey!)

Kate, bear and candy!

And so after a couple very long posts, this sums up the celebrations for my baby girl that perhaps isn't a baby anymore :-(.
