What better way to celebrate a fifth birthday than with a princess tea party?! Kate and I had a great time planning for the big day. After searching endlessely for tea sets for the princesses, I stumbled upon a 'paint your own teaset'. With a slightly immobile little girl due to a full leg cast, this was the perfect solution...it gave her something fun to do AND allowed her to be a big part of making her day special! She had a blast painting all of the tea sets for the royal party, which would be sent home with the party guests as favors.

Next up was finding the perfect dress for the birthday girl. As we requested on the invites, all of her friends would arrive dressed as their favorite princess. Kate's special present from Mommy and Daddy was to go to the Disney store and pick out any dress she wanted. After trying on every single one...and I mean every single one (which was an interesting experience with the cast), I couldn't say no to the "Cinderella Wedding Dress". If you could have seen the smile on her little face when she saw herself in the mirror, you would understand. It was more than obvious that she felt beautiful, which is just what I wanted for her.
Kate also insisted on helping make her cake/s for the party...which meant that Mommy couldn't take the easy way out and have Brandi make yet another beautiful cake for my girl. This party wasn't about what was easy for me, it was about what would make it special for Kate....so we made cupcakes for her friends and a special cake just for her and we did it together!

After I stayed up late the night before finishing up all of the decorations (banners, door signs, etc.), I knew she would wake up a happy girl on party day. On the morning of the party, I went upstairs to get her out of bed (she got her cast off the day before and was still struggling to walk on her leg) and when she saw the decorations, she said "I love the decorations, Mommy, they look amazing!" All of the hard work paid off!
She and all the girls had a great time. They played dress-up, enjoyed the royal tea party, played barbies/princesses and ate lots of cake! These parties are always a lot of work for me, but my heart is so full when I see the smile on her precious face. I want to make sure she knows how special this day is and ALWYAS will be for us too.

The after party was followed up by a dinner at McDonalds...her choice. Here a few McDonald's birthday dinner pictures.
As you can see we had a great day celebrating our big girl turning FIVE! Because she was so excited about finally turning five (she now writes the following on all of her papers: "Kate Davis. 5." and tells everyone she sees that she is five!), we didn't have the heart to tell her that Saturday wasn't her actual birthday. She woke up and was certain that she was bigger and older on that day (her clothes wouldn't fit anymore - Mommy was going to need to get her some "five clothes"). So, when her actual birthday came on Monday, I couldn't tell her, but I also couldn't help but to celebrate. In her mind she was already five, but to Mommy, this day was the extra special one! So, after picking her up from preschool, we went to the mall and had lunch of her choice, rode the merry-go-round many times, made a brithday build a bear and went to the candy store. I just couldn't resist celebrating on the fifth anniversary of her actual birth. (I couldn't get many pictures of this day as I was also chasing around a very busy little monkey!)

And so after a couple very long posts, this sums up the celebrations for my baby girl that perhaps isn't a baby anymore :-(.
